Why do we play 'Street Soccer' in the fall?
Why do we not have travel teams like the Spring?

In the fall there is only one league available for play, and this league requires us to still travel 45 minutes to games. With the cost of gas being what it is now we have to evaluate the value / time / money to ensure that we maintain a responsible balance for both the players and parents. The 45 minutes traveling could be much better spent on the soccer field learning skills, techniques and tactics than riding in a car. Reality is that our players spend more time in the car than on games.

The level of play in the fall decreases because the focus is often lost for teams as this is the middle school and high school programs’ main season. Every night is filled with soccer for those participating and their families, including our coaching staff. This trickles down to the siblings and we tend to have less involvement just like all the other clubs. We feel that we can develop your player stronger than if we were in the league, by properly utilizing this season to our club’s advantage and keeping all of our players in one central location. The efficient use of time we hope will better prepare your player for our main competitive season, the Spring season.

The "Street Soccer" environment is a developmentally appropriate environment for our young soccer players. It’s an environment that focuses on the young soccer player. Best of all, the game is simple, can be played without adult involvement, and it’s FUN!

Here are just some of the key reasons why we adults must foster "Street Soccer" in our Club:

  1. Because we want our young players to touch the soccer ball more often and become more skilful with it! (individual technical development)

  2. Because we want our young players to make more, less-complicated decisions during the game! (tactical development)

  3. Because we want our young players to be more physically efficient in the field space they are playing in! (reduced field size)

  4. Because we want our young players to have more individual teaching time with the coach! Less players on the field and less players on the team will guarantee this! (need to feel worthy and need to feel important)

  5. Because we want our young players to have more, involved playing time in the game! (more opportunity to solve problems that only the game presents)

  6. Because we want our young players to have more opportunity to play on both sides of the ball! (more exposure to attacking and defending situations)

  7. Because we want our young players to have more opportunities to score goals! (pure excitement)

DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
Building the next generation of Soaring Capital stars!

In the fall of 2003, SCSC started up their ‘development group’ which was to serve as an introduction to soccer for some of the younger children in and around the Elmira area.

Here at SCSC, the earliest we offer the chance to play ‘travel’ soccer is at the U9 level and we feel that this development program will serve to better prepare players for that level of play once they reach 8 or 9 years old.

The primary objective of this program is to encourage players to be comfortable with a soccer ball and to enjoy themselves, and this is achieved through a variety of fun activities which allow them numerous opportunities to experiment with their own ball, as well as small-sided games so that they can discover for themselves what soccer is all about.

All abilities are welcome. We offer programs in the Spring and Fall, ranging from as young as 2yrs old, in our new ’Starlets’ program!

Sessions are run by SCSC certified coaches (with assistance from parents and older SCSC players).  In fact, this is a great chance for any of you parents to get involved with helping out as much as possible. Don’t worry if you have never coached before or even if you have never played the game. In fact, the only thing you need to be able to do is create and sustain a positive, fun environment in which the important ones (that’s the kids) can flourish.
