Divisions
Start by identifying the number of players in each age band, this will require pre-registration in order to organize. The five and six year-olds (U-6’s) will play together, the seven and eight year-olds (U-8’s), the nine and ten year olds (U10 ) and the eleven and twelve year olds (U12). Boys and girls will play together.
Playing numbers
The ideal playing numbers are 3v3 for U-6’s and 4v4 for U-8’s. The possibilities for the use of goalkeepers at the U-8 level are discussed below. In reality, the actual playing numbers should remain flexible to ensure that every child plays all the time.
Field dimensions, goals, and markings
For U-6’s, the field size is 20-25 yards long by 15 yards wide, and with three to four yard wide goals to encourage vision and goal scoring. Field will be marked out with painted lines. For the U-8’s, the field size is 35-40 yards long by 25 yards wide, and with three to four yard wide goals. Corner flags or large cones can be used to form the goals. Field will be marked out with painted lines.
Logistics
The fields will be marked out utilizing the existing five fields. Our U10 field 60 x 40 will be turned into four, 20 x 15 fields for U6 and will accommodate 24 players in 3v3 format. Our U12 fields, 45 x 75 & 55 x 80 will be turned into four 30 x 20 fields for U8 and will accommodate 32 players in a 4 v 4 format. Our large field 75 x 105 will be turned into 4 35 x 25 fields and will accommodate 32 players in a 4 v 4 format. Our large field 120 x 80 will be turned into five 40 x 25 fields and will accommodate 40 U12 players in a 4v4 format.
Street Soccer Day
All age groups will have 15 minutes of techniques / skills work out to get them warmed up, each week a different move will be introduced with the expectations that this new skill will be introduced in the game by the players. Once the teams are determined the coaches for the age group takes them to the field areas, completes the skills training and gets the teams going.
The U-6’s play no more than 4 8-minute games for a total playing time of 24 minutes, and the U-8’s play no more than 4 10-minute games for a total playing time of 40 minutes, the U-10’s play no more than five 10 minute games for a total playing time of 50 minutes and the U-12’s play no more than six 10 minute games for a total playing time of 60 minutes. Weather conditions, field conditions, and enthusiasm should help determine the exact number of games in each division per day.
All fall coaches shall be there to help with their respective age groups, the commitment will be once a week for the required time frame plus setup and take down time of the fields equipment.
Adult Supervision
U6 age group should have one adult per field to help keep things moving so this will require 4 adults for the 24 players. U8 will require 1 adult for two fields will require 2 adults for 32 players, U10 will require 1 adult for two fields this will require 2 adults for 32 players and U12 will require 1 adult for two fields this will require 2-3 adults for 48 players.
If all fields are utilized then we will need 10 – 12 adults to volunteer to help during game play.
Referees
For U-6’s, there are no referees; however, an adult should always be within range to help keep the games moving. U-8’s should be allowed to call their own fouls, goals, and out of bounds. In an ideal situation, U-8 teams should also be free to decide on their own rule modifications! Decisions such as whether corners are taken or not, and whether the goalkeeper can use their hands or not, are common decisions that can be arbitrary decided on a game-by-game basis in a free play environment.
Modified Rules
Kick-ins replace throw-ins.
No goal kicks. Play restarts when any player dribbles the ball back into the field or passes to a teammate.
No corner kicks (U-6) Play is restarted in the same manner as a goal kick.
No offside
All fouls are indirect
Goalkeepers
In the U12 to have a rotating goalkeeper rotation based on time or goals . In U10 defending player closest to the goal became the goalkeeper for that part of the action, and that player was then free to run the ball out of the goal and start the next attack. In U8 no one could use their hands around the goal. U6 shall have no goalkeeper.
Uniforms
